Day 9 : Every meltdown has a message

Updated: Jun 14

I’m overwhelmed, not irrational.

Being overwhelmed doesn't mean you're weak, incapable, or overreacting. It often means you’re carrying too much for too long without enough space, support, or recovery.

Here’s a gentle reminder:

  • Overwhelmed means your system is flooded.

  • Irrational implies your thoughts aren’t based in reality. But your reaction makes sense in the context of your load.

People often misunderstand emotions as irrational when they feel too big, too fast, or too loud. But every meltdown, whether it’s anger, tears, silence, or shutdown, is your body’s way of saying:"I can’t hold this all on my own."

You’re not overreacting. You’re responding to a buildup your system can no longer carry quietly.

And that eruption? It’s not evidence of dysfunction, it’s a signal that something inside you needs care. That’s not chaos. That’s communication. I mean earnest communication!

What has your overwhelm been trying to say and what would it mean to finally listen without judgment?

Reflection:

You are not too much. Meltdowns are often your body’s way of saying, “I’m maxed out.” They aren’t proof of weakness; they’re signs you need care, rest, and emotional safety.

You're allowed to feel stretched without having to justify it.

Action Step:

Think back to a recent emotional reaction you judged harshly.

Reframe it - what was the unmet need underneath it?

Journaling Prompt:

When was the last time I felt emotionally overwhelmed? What triggered it, and what message was my body trying to send me?

Take a moment to breathe.

What’s one thing you can put down or say no to today?

And who can you reach out to for support, not to fix it, but to witness you?
