TRAUMA AND THE BODY

Trauma is not only stored in memories. It is also stored in the body.

Many people think trauma only affects emotions or thoughts, but unresolved trauma can deeply affect the nervous system and physical well-being. The body often remembers what the mind tries to forget.

This is why some people constantly feel the following:

• On edge

• Exhausted

• Restless

• Emotionally numb

• Easily startled

• Physically tense

• Unable to truly relax or feel safe

Trauma can contribute to the following:

• Nervous system dysregulation

• Chronic stress

• Fatigue

• Panic and anxiety

• Sleep difficulties

• Emotional numbness

• Body memories and physical triggers

Sometimes a person’s body is still responding to danger even when the danger has passed.

This is why certain sounds, tones, environments, conflicts, or experiences can trigger intense emotional or physical reactions without the person fully understanding why.

The nervous system learned survival. And many bodies have been living in protection mode for years.

Healing is not only about “thinking positively".

Healing also involves helping the body learn safety again.

Learning to rest.

Learning to breathe.

Learning to regulate emotions.

Learning that peace is possible.

Learning that the body no longer has to remain in constant survival mode.

Because true healing happens when both the mind and body begin to experience safety again.
